Dance Like No One Is Watching

One of my absolute favourite things in the world to do is dance! There is something about listening to music and moving to the beat that makes my soul happy. It is one of those things that lifts my spirit, no matter what kind of day I am having. I honestly can't remember a time when I wasn't happy when I was dancing.

My love of dance started at a very young age. I was born with a dislocated hip and the doctor recommended that my parents put me in ballet to help strengthen the ligaments. So when I was three, I was enrolled in my very first dance class and have been dancing ever since!

As an adult, I started taking bellydance lessons with my mom and fell in love with it. I even got up the nerve a few times to choreograph my own solos! Not only was I fascinated by the rich history and origins of it, I also think it is such a beautiful style of dance that allows you to express yourself in many ways. Because of the complexities and various styles within bellydance, it is something that takes many years to truly learn.

Not only has dance brought a lot of happiness into my life, it has also taught me some important life lessons. Here are three life lessons I learned from dancing:

1. Go with the flow. Sometimes you will stumble and make mistakes, but go with the flow and make it part of the dance. Making mistakes is a part of life, it is how we learn and grow as a person. Embrace those mistakes and go with the flow.

2. Enjoy the present moment. When I am dancing, I am literally living in the moment. I am not worrying about my to do list or something that happened yesterday. I am listening to the music and enjoying that moment in my life.

3. Have fun. Life is meant to be enjoyed. Everybody goes through difficult situations, but taking time for yourself to do something that you love brings joy into your life no matter what you may be going through.

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain

This little girl has recently taken the online world by storm with her fierce dance moves to Aretha Franklin's song Respect. I hope it puts a smile on your face and maybe even gets you dancing today!
